Herman LeVern Jones's Vision

Enlightening Through Entertainment

Herman LeVern Jones is a multifaceted artist and educator whose work embodies the concept of 'edutainment'—the seamless fusion of education and entertainment. As a co-founder of the National Black Theatre Festival, he has dedicated his life to preserving and promoting Black theatre.

"Theatre should not only captivate audiences but also enlighten them, sparking critical thinking and fostering a deeper understanding of the world."

His philosophy is rooted in the belief that art is a powerful tool for social change. He uses storytelling to address complex issues, challenge perspectives, and inspire dialogue. His work is a testament to the idea that learning can be both intellectually stimulating and emotionally resonant.

Herman's work shows that there is "a little bit of art in everyone", and that by engaging in the arts, people of all ages can grow, learn, and become better citizens.

Why It Matters

TheatreSouth transforms lives by providing a platform for authentic storytelling, creating opportunities for artistic expression, and preserving cultural heritage. Our work bridges generations, connects communities, and ensures that the rich tradition of Black theatre continues to inspire and educate.

Students will gain a deeper understanding of critical thinking, reading comprehension, public speaking, teamwork; spatial awareness, and professionalism. We also offer internships for the students to work at the summer arts camp. We have had great success with our summer programs in the past, and we are looking to build on that success with our summer theatre training and acting program.
